Sony have just launched an updated version of it’s 8-inch Vaio P netbook. The second generation Sony Vaio P series comes our way roughly one year since its first release.
While the new Vaio P second generation is mostly the same as the first model, there are a number of updates it brings with it. While it is still the same size with an 8-inch high resolution widescreen display (1600 x 768), and measuring just 0.8-inches thick, it brings a new case design with a matte finish and a choice of colors.
Update: Sony are now accepting pre-orders for the second generation Vaio P. You can order direct from Sony for $899. It should ship the 25th of this month!
Sony have also added in a small optical touchpad built into the right hand side of the screen bezel. This allows you to use two hands (holding near the hinge) and operate the netbook while walking. The addition of an accelerometer can change the orientation of the display, allowing you to display web pages and ebooks with maximum height. You can also tilt the netbook quickly left or right to go forwards and back while browsing the web.
Along with a choice of colors, black, white, pink and orange, the Vaio P is available with a choice of processors. The top of the range model features the Intel Atom Z560 2.13GHz processor, while the more basic model has the 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor.
Other features include 2GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, 802.11g/b/n WiFi, and optional 3G. The Vaio P 2 still usages a SSD (solid state disk), but it now comes in capacities upto 256GB rather than just 64GB.
