There were a surprisingly low number of new netbooks released at this years CES, with most just being slightly updated versions of previous netbooks updated with AMD’s latest hardware. There was on the other hand a lot of attention on tablets, causing some doubt in the netbook market.
But a recent article states that the netbook market is expected to maintain shipments of about 30 million units in 2011. It also states “The impact of Apple’s iPad had previously caused industry players to turn pessimistic toward netbook’s future; however, after a short-term of observation, the players have recently started changing their view about netbooks and believe the devices will still have a place in the market.” This is very good news for netbooks.
Intel is due to launch their new dual core Intel Atom N570 processor, which is an update that their dual core N550 (1.5GHz), which provides a speed boost with two cores running at 1.66Ghz.
The Intel Atom N570 CPU should be available in February with Asus, Acer, Samsung, Toshiba and Lenovo all releasing netbooks powered by the N570 in March 2011.
This March release date coincides with CeBIT, so we will probably see a number of new netbooks on display there which we look forward to.
So far we already know of the Samsung NC110 and the Lenovo S100 Netbooks.
